Thank You, Forever Young Sponsors and Volunteers!

The Forever Young 10K and 2 Mile Walk on Sunday, April 2 was another success story!  There were 140 registrations - a little higher than last year.  This race is a memorial to our member Charlie Young was killed in a bike accident in Colorado in August 2004.  Since Charlie always ran without a shirt even in the dead of winter, shirtless runners were given a two dollar refund at the finish line by none other than Two Dollar Bill (Dodson).  Age group awards were metal magnets shaped like a t-shirt.

Charlie lived in Placitas, so the race is held on a loop, dirt road in Placitas with rolling hills in a pinon/juniper forest.  The weather was perfect for runners - a little nippy at the start, but it warmed up nicely for the awards ceremony.  Our youngest runner was Aja Deyo just nine years old, and Mary Kirsling took honors for being the oldest at 83 years young.  Fastest runner of the day was David Kemei who won with a very impressive time of 34:14 which was a 5:31 pace - quite fantastic for that course!  Six of the top eight runners were ARR members!  But surprisingly, the first age group to fill was the 50-59 male age group.  Apparently runners are like fine wine; they improve with age.  Proceeds from the race will be donated to the Placitas Library which provided us with many parking volunteers and local publicity in the Placitas/Bernalillo communities.  Charlie's wife and daughter, Lucy Fox and Justine Fox-Young were on hand to cheer on the race participants.  Both are very appreciative of all your support for this race.     Please support our generous sponsors for this race:
