It's back!
The Famous Green Dress Run!
This is it. THE race you can not miss.
Prepare for a 4 mile hilly course.
Bring your camera as the sight is something to behold.
Running through the foothills, seeing green dresses bounding through
the trails.
The faces on the usual runners and walkers who live in the neighborhood
is worth it!
Back by popular request, Ed O'Heller will run his aid station above
Copper, complete with Baileys Irish Cream!
New this year: a prize for best story of someone buying his own dress.
What do you think of that? Start spinning a yarn about how you raided
the wife's closet! Went to Goodwill with a mission to find just the
right runnable dress, not too tight, not too long, flashy enough to win
a prize!
Door prizes and a prize for the best green dress of course.
Really? You don't own a green dress? Or you are planning on running for
office and can't be seen in a Green Dress!? Live a little! Ken O'Gordon
will have his Stock of Green at the starting line so if you can not
afford a green dress one will be provided for you.
Here we go! This is the one we have all been waiting for .

Unofficially,
it
was
the
largest
drag
race
in
Albuquerque
history, but there
wasn’t a race car in sight as over 65 ARR members and guests gathered
at the Indian School
trailhead for the
triumphant return of Ken Gordon’s Green Dress Run.
Men and women alike turned out in
costume to
see how quickly they could negotiate the challenging four mile trail
run, all while
wearing a green dress! And it was a
sight to behold. There were sequins. There were slits. There were long
dresses.
There were short dresses. There was even green hair. (And lots of other
hair in
strange and unmentionable places.) There was even a wedding dress. And
there
were lots and lots of smiles and lots and lots of laughter to add to
the fun.
Even with the large number of
runners, the handicapping went very smoothly in the capable hands of
Nicole
Neault who did such a great job of putting people at the right start
time that
we had dozens of runners finishing within seconds of each other. In
fact, they
came across the line so fast it was difficult to record their times!
Gimpy
Holly Palmer handled the emcee duties and showed the crowd why she
never made
it as a cheerleader while being forced to use a bullhorn to be heard.
Ken
Gordon and his trusty crew of green-dress-wearing support staff did an
excellent job marking the course and helping Ed Heller man the water
stop.
Mother Nature must have been
feeling the luck of the Irish since we were blessed with pristine
weather
conditions including sunny skies and starting time temps in the 40s
that rose
to the 50s by the end of the race. This is even more amazing due to the
fact
that it snowed the next day.
The beautiful weather produced
some unbelievably fast times, even with the handicap of the green
dress. Joel
Hamilton, who was part of a group from Golden, Colorado
that had heard about
the race flew over the four mile course in a time of 23:06 to
take the Fastest
Male honors. He was the proud recipient of the coveted Spam trophy. On
the Fastest
Female side, Christy Dixon another visitor from Golden, CO ran fast
enough to
grab the second Spam trophy. The Best Dressed Award went to Tim Koehler
who
made it even more special by navigating the trails in his wedding
outfit, hat
and all.
Many
more door prizes were
awarded including some cool running socks, shamrock running hats, free
entries
into the Run for the Zoo and an interestingly shaped fuzzy green lamp.
I’m not
going to describe what it looked like…this publication is rated-G.
This will be a handicap that
will be talked about for years. Many, many thanks to Ken Gordon and his
support
crew for putting together such an awesome and fun event.
The next stop on the handicap
circuit is the April edition to be held at Kathy Kirsling’s house in Edgewood.
