The return of the Poker Run after a break of nearly 10 years proved to be highly successful. Twenty-five runners and ten volunteers turned out on this brisk March morning in the foothills. Of course, a run in the foothills is always a good bet, but even more fun with a bunch of running buddies who are just as nutty as you. Eric Ollila gets only faster with each passing day. He won this handicap with a pace of 6:35 despite the steep hills. However, Eric Pope is the new points leader having attended all three of the races in this series so far. Suzy LFB is a mere two points behind, but we still have three more races in this series. Eric Pope also won a nifty prize for having the best hand, five aces. There were seven prizes in all, so the wealth was spread around.
Congratulations are in order for handicap regulars, Matt and Laura Shike. Their first born son, Nathan, arrived on Valentine's Day! Savor the moments that you can outrun Nathan. Surely that won't last long!
The handicaps remain popular for newcomers. There were seven first timers in this race and several who had not done a handicap in quite a long time. Many thanks to all our volunteers who made this such a fun event! Join us for the next handicap on April 5 at the Zanelli's house and pizza oven! It will be the day before Forever Young, but the course is short and you can always opt to run it easy. Or you can run hard at the handicap and volunteer at Forever Young!
