November 4, 2009

Call to order at 7:02 PM by President Marcel Hesch

Introduction of new members/guests: Michael, Lauren, Jeff

Angie DiSalvo from Sports Systems said they are looking to enlarge the events connected with Day of the Tread in 2010. They have purchased a new timing system to be used in a variety of events.

The race results and volunteer sheets were passed around.

Announcements

  • The 11K will be Sunday, November 15 at Kit Carson Park. The runner item will be a reflective vest.
  • Richard Harris announced that the next trail clean-up will be November 21 at 8:30 AM near Atrisco & Legends area opposite Petroglyphs Visitor Center.
  • Ian announced that he completed both the Arkansas Traveler 100 and Javalina 100 over the last 2 months.
  • Applications for the ARR 2010 Racing Team are available on the website and can be turned into Kelly Garcia or Marcel Hesch by 11/15/09.
  • Elections for club officers will be held in January. Marcel Hesch announced that he will be stepping down as president at that time so that position will be available.
  • The Club holiday party will be Saturday, December 19 at Park Plaza at Central and 15th Ave. downtown. Details will be forthcoming.
  • Ed Zanelli announced that a friend of his will be commencing a 3800 mile run across America from CA to the Statue of Liberty. He is asking that the club help support his friend in running with him when he is in the ABQ area. One of the goals of the runner is to visit local breweries along the way. It is anticipated that he will be in the area in early April.
  • Holly Palmer, newsletter editor, announced that the November issue will be late and that effective February 2010 the newsletter will available electronically. Individuals may request a hard copy by calling Holly.
  • Tim thanked club members for their assistance at the Duke City Marathon.
  • Dennis Muirhead announced that the Los Tortugas team has again been accepted into the 2010 River to River Relay in southern IL for the 7th straight year.
Event Recaps
  • Bean Fiesta in Moriarty
  • Health Fair at the Jewish Community Center where Glenda Muirhead and Linda Patterson volunteered at the club table. Glenda reported that it was a good event and they were able to talk to a number of people.
  • The October handicap event was held at Menaul School and about 25 people participated.
Upcoming Events
  • Nicole Buerger will be organizing the November handicap. It will be held in the foothills on Saturday, November 14. The course will be 4 miles and a potluck will be held at her home afterwards.
  • November 26 (Thanksgiving Day) Events
    • The new Hallenbrick Brewery will be sponsoring a 5K run from the Brewery located on Hawkins NE (off Jefferson between Masthead and Ellison). Entry forms will be available next week.
    • Turkey Trot 5K at Kit Carson Park
    • TCR event on Nob Hill
    • Rio Rancho
  • The December 5 handicap event will be held at Academy Hills Park and will be a 2-person team format with a total distance of 7 miles. A potluck will be at Ed and Shannon Zanelli’s home following the event.

Guest Speaker: George Goodkin DPM, DOMPC who spoke on his integration of podiatry and acupuncture and the benefits acupuncture can have for athletes including performance enhancement, quicker recovery, mental aspects of training/competition, restful sleep, preservation/improvement of health and relaxation.

Meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
