Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute Sunday, July 9
Despite the intermittent rain showers
this past week, the weather for the race was dry though humid and the sun
even made an appearance midway through the race. Lake SIPI on the west
side of the course was easily detoured and the small section on dirt
proved to not be too terribly muddy. Many thanks to race director Kathleen
Stabler for ordering the perfect weather! Talk about thinking of all the
details.
The course was entirely on SIPI
grounds this year being basically an out and back around the perimeter of
the campus with a small loop at the midpoint making the turnaround easier
for the speedsters. A total of 161 women participated in this year's
event. Each participant received a ladies' sized baseball shirt with navy
blue accents. The participants were also treated to free massages, freshly
sliced bread from Great Harvest, fruit, snacks, and numerous drawing
prizes including a $100 gift certificate from Heart and Sole. The overall
and masters winners each received $100 gift certificates from Athlete's
Edge, while Fleet Feet donated many of the drawing prizes and hosted the
packet pickup once again. Dos Hermanos also donated drawing prizes. They
will have a new location coming soon!
Each finisher was presented with a
prettily wrapped tealight Gold Canyon Candle prepared by Patrice Leddy and
Donna Calles. If you haven't tried one of these candles yet, they are the
best around - long lasting and delightful scents. Thank you to the many,
many volunteers, especially first-time race director, Kathleen Stabler,
who made this race so much fun for all !
