| New Year's Prediction Run Saturday, January 17, 2009 8:30 am Placitas 5 Miles on Paved and Dirt Roads The January handicap will once again be a Prediction Run hosted by Al and Katrina Enciso at their home in Placitas. Yes, this is the Al of the famed APNEA Hill Scale rating system. See the September 2008 issue of ARR News for complete description of the APNEA Hill Scale rating system by John Carpenter. Rather than the normal handicap format, we will do this handicap as a prediction run due to last year's success. You tell us your expected time; no watches allowed on the run; whoever runs closest to his or her predicted time wins the handicap. Points will be awarded based on how close you came to predicting your time relative to your running companions. This is your chance to tell us how fast you are! But, of course, you will have to factor in the distance and the hills. According to our host, this is a scenic, out and back, rolling 5-miler on paved and dirt roads. There is only one Al-1 hill on the way out and one short Al-2 coming back. In between there is a 2-mile flat stretch and an exhilarating long, fast, downhill. (This course is different from last year's.) A potluck will follow the event with our host and hostess providing hot and cold beverages, Spanish tortillas, clean bathrooms, and random prizes. Directions: 18 Hohokam Road, Placitas Phone: 554-2817 Take I-25 north to Exit 242. Go east on 165 for about 7 miles. Once you pass the gas station, the post office, and the cemetery, turn left on Camino de las Huertas. Go 2.2 miles and turn left on Cedar Creek Road. Go to the end of Cedar Creek and turn left on Anasazi (a dirt road), and then right on Hohokam Road. Number 18 is the last house on the left. Prediction times will be taken from all attendees on race morning. |
